RESPONSE TO THE VIRAL VIDEO ALLEGING A BUSY SITUATION DUE TO AN OVERFLOW OF CHINESE CITIZENS AT THE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

 MEDIA STATEMENT

 IMMIGRATION DEPARTMENT OF MALAYSIA

The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) refers to a video that went viral alleging congestion at the airport due to being flooded by Chinese tourists.

JIM would like to emphasize that the video is an old video recorded in 2022 at the Bus Hall, Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) Johor Bahru when the entrance to the country started to open after the restrictions on cross-border movement due to COVID-19 ended. The video was recorded during the inbound movement of Malaysians working in Singapore. JIM also wants to deny that the recording was made at the country’s international airport.

According to records, the average outbound and inbound movement at BSI is 250,000 on normal days and will double during festive seasons.

The public is advised not to spread unauthentic information that may cause confusion and anxiety among the community. Please visit JIM’s official portal and official social media accounts to get accurate and up-to-date information related to this Department.
