Paralyzed husband fell from a tree, wife gave birth to a small child begging for help

PASIR MAS – A husband’s desire to earn extra money to support his family was destroyed after he fell from a dokong tree and became paralyzed.

The incident on October 27 happened when the victim, Mat Yuning Sin, 44, was at a height of six meters and fell when the branch he stepped on broke.

As a result, the father of five children aged two months to 19 years broke his ribs and back.

“Even though I was lying on the bed, thank God my hands and feet were not injured,” he told reporters while receiving a visit from community activist Amran Rahman at his home in Kampung Tanjong here on Sunday.

During the visit, Mat Yuning received a bed, mattress and kitchen equipment from Amran.

Meanwhile, his wife, Suhana Abdul Rashid, 35, said that she was forced to work by taking a wage cleaning the house with a payment of RM45 a day after two months of giving birth.

He said, although it was painful, he had to do so to ensure the kitchen was smoky.

He added that the family had previously faced financial problems because the husband’s income as a handyman was uncertain.

“Our 15 and 19-year-old children had to drop out of school because there was no money. In fact, we also had electricity bill arrears amounting to RM2,053.34.

“It’s not that we don’t try, but the income we have is only enough to buy food to continue living. Fortunately, the house courtesy of my mother-in-law, which only has one room, doesn’t have to pay rent,” he said.

Suhana said, it was even worse when her husband had to be taken to Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital (HRPZII) for follow-up treatment and had to hire an ambulance at a price of RM250 to RM300.

So far he has just filled out a form to get help from the Social Welfare Department (JKM).

People who want to donate can do so through Bank Islam account 03018021617580 Suhana Abdul Rashid.
