Immigration will raid areas where foreigners are concentrated

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) Terengganu will crack down on hotspots that are the focus of foreigners throughout the state.

DG JIM Azhar Abd Hamid said, enforcement officers have identified all the hotspots that are the focus of foreigners, especially on public holidays throughout the state.

He said, monitoring is done periodically including the results of public feedback.

Monitoring was carried out and found that foreigners go out to shop and meet with their compatriots who work elsewhere in the area on every weekly holiday.

“We are collecting information on the actual number of foreigners who enter and work in the state legally and also without any valid documents,” he said when contacted today.

Commenting on the influx of foreigners, especially during the Chinese New Year holiday last Saturday and Sunday, Azhar confirmed that he had received information about hundreds of foreigners flooding several locations in the state.

“We are not silent… as a result of intelligence and monitoring, we have identified the residence and workplace of the foreigners concerned.

“We will raid the locations at a large scale in the near future,” he said.

Azhar also confirmed that state JIM enforcement officers always conduct operations, but only on a small scale, including at car wash workshops and furniture stores.

In another development, Azhar reminded the 712 employers who registered foreign workers under the Workforce Recalibration program (RTK 2-0) to perform biometric system identification.

So far, he said, only 3,392 foreigners who were registered under the RTK program had done biometric system identification.

“We remind employers not to wait for the deadline to bring the 3,463 foreigners who have been registered under the RTK program to do the biometric system identification,” he said.
