IMMIGRATION FIGHTING FOREIGN BEGGARS

IMMIGRATION DEPARTMENT OF MALAYSIA

The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) has successfully arrested a total of 10 foreign national beggars in an Inspection Operation on 12 January 2024 by the Enforcement Division, Malaysian Immigration Department Headquarters.

This operation was carried out at 12.15 in the afternoon at the grounds of the Saidina Abu Bakar Mosque, Jalan Ara, Bangsar.

In this operation, a total of 13 people were checked and as a result of further checks, a total of 10 foreign national beggars between the ages of 2 and 41 were arrested for various offences. Those arrested are two Indonesian men and one woman and one Myanmar man and two women. Also detained are two boys and two girls who are Myanmar nationals.

A total of three individuals were released because they were local citizens. This inspection action was taken following a public complaint regarding begging activities among foreign nationals that often occur in the area.

All of these detained foreign beggars were arrested on reasonable suspicion of having committed an offense under the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155) and the Immigration Regulations 1963.

All subjects were detained under Section 51(5)(b) of the Immigration Act 1959 /63 (Act 155) and placed at Semenyih Immigration Depot for further investigation and action.
