Flood victims increased, another PPS was opened

Kuching: The number of flood victims in Sarawak increased with another temporary evacuation center (PPS) opening, namely Taman Malihah Multipurpose Hall, Matang, late yesterday afternoon.

As of 8 this morning, a total of 418 victims from 111 families were placed in four PPS in Batu Kawa, Matang and Bau.

The Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) in a statement informed that the PPS Taman Malihah Multipurpose Hall which opened at 6pm now recorded the highest number of 182 victims from 48 families.

PPS Dewan Masyarakat Stapok housed a total of 151 victims from 43 families.

PPS Dewan R Piang, Kampung Sinar Budi Baru in Batu Kawa also recorded an increase when it accommodated 60 victims from 13 families.

PPS Dewan Kampung Segong, Bau housed nine victims from two families.

All PPS were opened following several areas in Sarawak hit by floods due to continuous heavy rain since 3am on Friday.

Meanwhile in Bintulu, the PPS Balai Raya Kampung Assyakirin, which was opened on January 18, is still active in accommodating 16 residents from five families whose homes in Iris Garden and Pine Court were badly damaged due to the storm.
