A foreigner was arrested in an armed robbery of a pet store

KUALA LUMPUR – An unemployed foreign national was arrested by the police to assist in the investigation of an armed robbery case at a pet store, Taman Muda, Ampang.

Ampang Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail said, his party confiscated a backpack, a shirt, jeans, a helmet and a long machete to help with the investigation.

“Around 12 noon, a police team from the Ampang Jaya District Criminal Investigation Division arrested a foreign man.

“He is 31 years old and does not work in the Ampang area. He is suspected of being involved in a case under investigation,” he said in a statement today.

Previously, it was reported that two individuals robbed a pet shop at Jalan Bunga Tanjung 18, Taman Muda here, at about 3.26pm, on 22 November 2023.

At the time of the incident, a 54-year-old worker was approached by two unknown men, one of whom pulled out a machete.

The suspect then pulled the neck of the man’s shirt while heading to the cashier’s box and ordered his friend to hand over the money.

In addition to the money, the suspect also took a black bag containing books and medicine from the bottom of the table and immediately ran away with the suspect’s friend who was waiting outside on a motorcycle.

In the meantime, Mohd Azam also said that a urine test of the suspect found that the foreign national was positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.

“Preliminary investigations found that the suspect was an individual who entered and pointed a machete into the shop at the time of the incident.

“Further review also found that the suspect had been accused of stealing a motorcycle before,” he said.

The suspect was then remanded for seven days by the Ampang Court under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code from 20 to 26 January 2024.

“The case is being investigated according to Section 395/397 of the Penal Code referring to armed robbery and attempting to cause death or serious injury.

“The punishment of Section 395/397 of the Penal Code should be punished with imprisonment for a period of up to twenty years and should also be subject to whipping,” he said.
