82 foreigners were detained for working without a valid passport

MIRI: A total of 82 foreigners were arrested after being suspected of working without valid passports in two series of operations carried out by the Malaysian Immigration Department at several premises around the city of Miri.

The arrest of Illegal Immigrants (PATI) was made through operations called Ops Gegar and Ops Sapu by a team of members of the Immigration Enforcement Unit (UPI) in Miri.

“The main focus of the UPI Miri operation this time is directed at reflexology centers, entertainment premises and restaurants suspected of employing foreign workers without valid passports.

“Acting on the information provided, through Ops Gegar in the target locations, a total of 47 individuals were examined of which 32 foreigners were detained for various offences.

“In total, through Ops Gegar and Ops Sapu, 97 individuals were examined of which 82 foreigners were detained,” according to the statement on Wednesday night.

All foreign nationals are detained under Section 51(5)(b) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Immigration Department also expressed its deepest appreciation to the public who provided information to ensure that the rule of law in Malaysia is always preserved.
