40 illegal foreigners were detained in Senai

SENAI, 26 January – Johor Immigration Department arrested 40 foreigners for allegedly working without valid permits and overstaying in Malaysia.

Its director, Baharuddin Tahir said the arrests were made in various operations namely Ops Selera, Ops Shopping, Ops Sapu and Ops Kutip. Raids were carried out in premises around hot spots at about 3.50pm following public complaints.

“During these operations, a total of 110 foreigners and locals were checked and 40 foreigners were arrested.

“Those arrested are nine men and 10 women from Indonesia, two men and nine women from Myanmar, six men from Bangladesh, two men from Pakistan, one man from Nepal and one man from India. All of them are between 19 and 57 years old,” he said.

According to Baharuddin, five notices to appear at the office were also issued to the individuals involved to assist the investigation.

He said, those detained are believed to have committed an offense under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155) for not having any valid passport or permit to be in Malaysia; Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155) for overstaying and Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 which is in violation of the conditions of the passport.

Meanwhile, a Myanmar woman was detained under Section 55E of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155) for allowing illegal aliens to be in the premises.
