24 Foreign GROs were detained

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 24 foreign women suspected of working as customer service agents (GROs) were arrested in raids at four entertainment centers here on Saturday.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief, Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid said, through the raid, his party arrested 30 individuals including four caretakers of the premises as well as 26 foreigners aged between 20 and 41 years old.

The caretakers of the premises arrested are local men, while the 26 foreigners arrested consist of two male workers and 24 women suspected of being hired as GROs.

“They consist of two men from Myanmar and 10 women from Indonesia, seven women from Vietnam, three each from China and Thailand and one woman from Laos,” he said.

Allaudeen said the raid, which started at 11.30pm, was carried out by the Criminal Investigation Division of Crime, Gambling and Undercover (D7) of the Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) of the Kuala Lumpur Police.

“Further review found that two of the four premises did not have a valid business license and three of the premises were found to employ foreigners as workers and GROs,” he said.

He said that all the arrested individuals were then handed over to the District Police Headquarters (IPD) Wangsa Maju, IPD Dang Wangi and IPD Cheras for further action.

“The case is investigated in accordance with Section 55B of the Immigration Act 1959/63, Section 39(b) of the Immigration Act 1963, Section 4(1) of the Federal Territories Entertainment Act and section 29 of the Entertainment Rules (Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur) 1992,” he said.
