23 foreigners detained at massage center

KUANTAN : A total of 23 foreigners were arrested in a raid conducted by the Malaysian Immigration Department at a massage center and restaurant in Bentong, yesterday.

JIM director Muhammad Hatta Kassim said that the raid which was carried out between 3:30 to 5:50 pm targeted business premises in the ‘hotspot’ area of foreign nationals.

The operation team consisting of 17 officers received information from the public and intelligence officers of the Enforcement Division. The officers examined a total of 32 individuals including customers at both premises.

The results of the inspection of 23 foreigners consisting of 14 Myanmar women, nine Myanmar men and one Chinese man were arrested for not having any valid passport to stay in Malaysia,” he said in a statement today.

They were detained for violating the provisions of Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155).

All the detainees aged between 19 to 43 were remanded for 14 days under Section 51(5)(b) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 at the Kemayan Immigration Detention Depot for further investigation.

The employer involved was also given a notice to appear to assist the investigation.

“JIM Negeri Pahang calls on the public to come forward and channel information related to the presence of illegal foreigners in their respective localities to help the authorities combat the issue of the illegal immigrants.

“Strict legal action without compromise will be taken against PATI and any party that employs and provides protection to them,” he said.
