154 foreigners were examined during immigration raids

An illegal immigrant tried to deceive JIM Terengganu enforcement officers by presenting a fake UNHCR refugee card. The original owner of the card was a woman. He then admitted that he had obtained the fake card for RM150 from a friend in Johor Bahru. The man was then detained for further investigation under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Amended 2002).

He was one of the PATIs arrested in the inspection operation of Ops Belanja, Ops Sapu, and Ops Kutip. The raid was conducted by the Terengganu State JIM Enforcement Division around Besut District, Terengganu.

A total of 25 officers from Enforcement Division raided several ‘hotspot’ locations that were identified by intelligence and public information. There were several business premises and construction sites suspected of illegally employing foreigners around Bandar Jertih and Kuala Besut.

A total of 154 individuals were examined and 24 people were arrested, consisting of 8 Bangladeshi men, 5 Myanmar men, 2 Pakistani men, 4 Thai men and 5 Indonesian men. All of them were arrested for committing an offense under the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Amendment 2002) and the Immigration Regulations 1963. JIM Terengganu also confiscated 3 motorcycles that had been modified to sell food without permission.

Terengganu State Immigration Director, Tuan Azhar bin Abd Hamid with the Deputy Director of Terengganu State Immigration Tuan Mat Amin bin Hassan was also present to review the implementation of this operation.
