117 detainees were repatriated by JIM

Johor Bahru, 7 March 2024 – Pekan Nenas Immigration Depot has carried out the transfer of a total of 117 detainees to their countries of origin via the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

The transfer was led by a senior officer and also involved a total of 25 officers of different ranks for the purpose of escorting detainees. All the assets of the department, 2 trucks and 2 vans as well as 1 SUV type vehicle have been mobilized to ensure the smoothness of the journey throughout the prisoner transfer process.

All of these repatriated prisoners consist of 85 Myanmar nationals, and 33 Indian nationals. Ticket financing for the repatriation of all these detainees is fully funded by the detainees. The transfer of detainees to their country of origin also received cooperation from the embassies of their respective countries.

The repatriation of these detainees was made after all detainees had completed their sentences for various offenses including offenses under the Immigration Act 1969/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963.

This detainee transfer program is managed by the Record and Transfer Unit. It is the main activity of Pekan Nenas Immigration Detention Depot which is carried out continuously by JIM Negeri Johor. It is to ensure that all detainees who have completed their sentences are immediately repatriated.

This transfer is the 41st transfer carried out by Pekan Nenas Immigration Depot for the year 2024.
