10 foreign security guards arrested, only Nepalese are allowed as security guards, said KDN

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) arrested 10 foreigners on suspicion of working as security guards without a valid work permit in operations at seven locations around the Klang Valley.

KDN Enforcement and Control Division (PKK) secretary, Nik Yusaimi Yussof said the integrated operation was carried out through the Enforcement and Control Division together with the Immigration Department last Wednesday.

He said the foreign security guards arrested in the operation were Pakistani, Indian, Sri Lankan and Nepalese, in addition to identifying four security companies involved in the breach.

“The investigation process is being carried out for strict action and the security control company involved may be subject to action until the license is revoked.

“This case is being investigated in accordance with Section 39(b) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 which is a violation of the conditions of a pass or permit which can lead to a fine of not more than RM10,000 or imprisonment of not more than six months or both,” he said in a statement tonight.

Meanwhile, Nik Yusaimi said only Malaysians who have passed the security screening and Nepalese nationals who have work permits as security guards are allowed to work as security guards in this country as stated in the Private Agency Circular Number 2 of 2006 of the Private Agency Act 1971.

He urged companies that conduct security control services to improve the quality of security control services and comply with the regulations that have been set under the Private Agencies Act 1971.

“Therefore, people who want to get the services of security guards from a security control company need to ensure that the company is registered with the KDN,” he said.

He asked the public to cooperate by channeling information related to illegal security guards by calling 03-80008000/88893145, e-mailing aduanpk@moha.gov.my or through the website www.moha.gov.my
